Life is the culmination of the choices we make and the directions we choose to take. While we might want a certain thing to happen to us, we can still make the choice to ignore the actions we need to take. Most of the time, this thinking will result in an unpleasant situation that seems inescapable. But are we really as struck as we think?
Un-sticking Your Thinking
If you find yourself complaining day after day, it's time to stop that habit and start finding new ways to look at your situation. First of all, not everything can be bad - otherwise you wouldn't have said yes to the situation in the first place. Take a moment to sit down and write out all of the good things about your terrible situation. If you work at a place that you despise, you can create an entire list about how great their vending machines are - it really doesn't matter. Just come up with a list of all the good things you can say about the place and be certain to fill up the entire sheet. After a while, you will start coming up with positive things to say that you didn't even realize you liked.
Un-sticking Your Pain
Once you have an idea of some of the things you actually enjoy about your situation, you can begin to un-stick the pain from yourself too. You can accomplish this by not berating your situation aloud any longer. This is going to be tough at first, but it will help you begin to grow content with where you are at until you can figure out how to get out of it. In some cases, you might realize that things aren't all that bad and that perhaps it's your perspective that needs to change. You might never get to the last step in the 'un-sticking' process.
Un-sticking the Rest of You
The final step when you are in a place where you don't want to be is to remove yourself from it. While this sounds scary and tremendous, it's the only way to start being happy with yourself and with your life. Though this does sound a lot like giving up and just quitting when times get tough, this is far from the truth. By recognizing that you can not change your situation and that you've tried to make the most of it, you are leaving with a clear conscience. And you are also ready to take on new challenges with a more positive outlook.
You may not like your job, a certain friend, or perhaps some medical condition you have, but you can change what you think about it if you follow these tips. Your brain has the ability to shift your consciousness into something that can alter the rest of your life and move you into the direction you deserve to move into but it's up to you to take that first step into a positive mindset.
