Mark Twain once said: ?Clothes make the man.? Some smart aleck will say that how could it make me? I could exist without clothes. I am composed of atoms and molecules and whatever stuff that make up human beings. But what Mark Twain meant was that what you wear says a lot about who you are, what your character is. You might be seeing in a park one day just simply people watching and you may, more or less, have a grasp about a person's personality. Take for instance, a gal in some form fitting clothes and short short skirt. Your first impression is that this girl is someone who likes having fun, and if you are biased, you may think that that person is someone with not so strict morals. Of course, these are just first impressions and I am not saying that people who dress like that are all alike. All I am saying is that this is the case usually.

I, usually, would give the impression of the meek geeky type. With my glasses and my face usually buried in a book, I guess I can't fault people for thinking that. And I do not mind it. As I always say the richest guy in the world is a geek. Well, he was the richest a few years back. It is now the Mexican telecoms giant Carlos Slim.

But the best impressions by any people are given by those who wear men's suit. Take for example the businessmen and pastors and lawyers (OK. Not exactly best impressions for these guys, but impressions nonetheless). These people radiate some form of authority that would make you sit up and notice. Imagine for instance if your favorite pastor would appear in your church one Sunday wearing board shorts and Hawaiian shirts instead of men's suit. I am sure that people will notice him but not out of respect. You can surely hear words like: ?Uh, what is wrong with him today?? Or lawyers, bless their soul, would you hire a lawyer not dressed in a men's suit? How do you think would it appear to a judge if your lawyer, instead of men's suit, would appear in court dress like the courtroom is his living room? You will never touch him with a ten foot pole.

How about businessmen? Somehow a person in men's suit would appear trustworthy, convey an impression that he respects you as a person and that he means to do business. In some Asian society, it is imperative that you dress up formally no matter what the occasion is if meeting up with your business associates. They usually are doubtful of people who are look tacky and does not seem to dress up for the occasion. If you are planning to have people take you seriously and accord you the respect that you properly deserve, make sure that you are properly dressed up or else you might just as well make a comic out of yourself.
