The Democratic Republic of the Congo, also commonly known as the DRC, is the third largest country in Africa, in terms of land mass. The DRC is situated in the Central African UN sub-region, and it borders the Central African Republic, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, and the Republic of the Congo. Its location gives the country convenient access to the Atlantic Ocean through land strips at Muanda, as well as at the intersection of the Congo River and the Gulf of Guinea.

Despite its great resources, the DRC has not optimized its production and export of cobalt, copper, tantalum, and diamonds due to the domestic Congo conflicts.

Primarily a Christian country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has a population of approximately 66 million people, and there are over 250 different ethnic groups, with more than 700 different languages.

South Africa

The Republic of South Africa, in the most southern region of Africa, borders the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. South Africa also borders Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. In South Africa, there are five different regional lands. The incredibly diverse land with over 20,000 types of faunas includes the Plateau, Coastal Strip, Cape Mountain, Namib Desert, and Kalahari Desert.

With the early immigration of Europeans to South Africa, this country experienced a much different development and history than the rest of the continent. With its strategic location for shipping and logistics, South Africa quickly became important to the trade of the rest of the world.

In South Africa's history, the racial tensions between the black majority and white minority have played a large role in shaping politics and movements. In 1948, apartheid was instituted in the country and existed until 1990, when it was overturned after extensive domestic struggles and international movements.

In 1994, the majority of the country became enfranchised and participated in regular elections, which had been occurring in the country for almost 100 years. The country has three capitals: the legislative capital of Cape Town, the administrative capital of Pretoria, and the judicial capital of Bloemfontein. With GDP ranked as 24th in the world, the economy of South Africa is relatively well developed, with natural resources and agriculture as a major export, as well as excellent infrastructure in the financial, legal, and logistical arenas.
