3. Identify your target market’s biggest problem and then solve it.
Book selling is as much about solving a problem and providing a benefit as it is about writing. Your book has to provide a benefit to your reader. It has to solve a problem. People read books for several reasons: they want to be smarter, richer, sexier, happier, more in control, thinner, more beautiful, more respected, you get the picture.
Even if you’re writing about how to choose a software product or how to coach a basketball team, tell them how you’re going to make them better. Choosing the right software product may make them more money and may save them money. Coaching a basketball team well will earn them the respect and love of their team and their basketball peers.
Once you have chosen your publication format, you understand who your reader is, and you know exactly how you’re going to provide them the biggest bang for their buck, you’re on your way to writing and publishing a best selling book.
