Naturism was initial popularised in Germany amid the early 1900's. The number of moving naturists, or those who live as nudists, rapidly grew from the word go the 20th century, and present there are hundreds of nudist colonies around the globe. From the original groups in Germany to those in the United States, United Kingdom, and other parts of Europe, those who live this way do so because it promotes equality and freedom among members of the group. While some may look on naturism as being odd, those who live as naturists agree that it is one of the healthiest ways to live.

Skinny dipping is a well known form of naturism that is practiced by those who live in nudist colonies, as well as those who live among the mainstream society. The act of swimming while nude is something that multitudinous members of public do nowadays because it goes against what mainstream society deems proper. On the other hand, it has not always been that style. While better members of public who skinny dip now do it in the privacy of their home swimming pool, or with a select group of close friends, there are public beaches and spaces that allow nude sunbathing and swimming.

France and Germany were two of the earliest cultures to support the nudist conceptualization. The origins of nudism lie in German folklore, and they were the prime to form clubs and groups for populace who enjoyed the lifestyle. Those who oppose naturism do so because they believe the lifestyle is wrong on a moral level. They think that humans were meant to be covered, and they tend to believe that the lifestyle has a negative impact on children. There are some who say that naturism debuts children too early to sexual ideas and practices. There is also a misunderstood belief that naturism is related to sexual intercourse. They believe that those who commune with nature while naked, are more likely to engage in unusual sexual practices. They think that naturism is naturally connected to other acts these as having multiple partners.

The number of single-minded nudists around the world grows constantly. It is estimated that as multitudinous as one to two hundred thousand people join the ranks of the nudists each year. Because of the widespread influence of nudists, legions countries and conurbations are beginning to focus on obtaining their money. Because nudists are accustomed to having to travel to practice nudism in groups, hundreds of nudist resorts display cropped up in fresh years. Many show resorted to selling private memberships, like a country club, and the same members come back year after year.
