The next generation will not be a generation that is determined by age. But the next generation will be determined by how technologically plugged they are.

And the iPod is the symbol of this generation. It is the way they use this amazing gadget to get the best out of the world entertainment and how they add value to the creative process. The world is a beautiful place and the iPod gives people an opportunity to appreciate a cross selection of music without having to worry about too much cost and waste.

So what is so fascinating about this generation of “iPoders"? In the first instance, this generation is made up of people from different age groups, different social backgrounds, people who have different career backgrounds and whose worldviews are not necessarily shared. But this invention makes them have a shared experience even if this is not implied. When people share something in common no matter how remote they are likely to view each other in a positive sense. I am not suggesting that iPods will brig about world peace but they do offer a starting point because they show that all people share a similarity; we all have dreams and needs and the iPod carries those dreams for each and everyone of us. The music we listen to is the window to our souls; it is a reflection of what we desire and what we need. Therefore the iPod is not just a music machine but it is like a diary in the old days. It speaks to us and it keeps our passions and helps us keep a track of those dreams.

The iPod has the innate power to bring all people, regardless of race, color, sex or any other identity marker that we as society use to differentiate. This might not have been the intention of the creators but it is a definite spin-off. When you see someone else listening to their iPod you recognize that it carries their dreams and hopes carried in the narratives (songs) that they store in their iPods. Most people might say that that this article is taking things to the extreme but in reality the potential of the iPod to help people realize that their differences are superficial should not be underestimated.
