The island of Praslin is famous for its tranquil atmosphere, fabulous unspoilt beaches and the Vallee de Mai. It is also the home of the extraordinary double coconut.

Praslin is an island with a rich history and fascinating legends. It was discovered in 1744 by Lazare Picault. At that time, it was used as a hideaway by pirates and Arab merchants.

The sea offers a breathtaking spectacle of about 800 species of brightly coloured fish swimming among coral reefs and sea shells.

Most of Praslin is covered in tropical forest. Flora and fauna thrive together and some of the rarest birds.

In Praslin, you will find very comfortable hotels as well as various possibilities for renting bungalows. It is a convenient starting point for visiting the neighbouring islands.

Nature lovers will be delighted, however there are protected species.

This lovely island preserves a splendid, palm forested valley. The World Heritage Site of Vallee de Mai, where you can wander among the six endemic palms of the Seychelles and listen for the rare, endemic Black Parrot.

The island has small, sheltered coves with granite boulders and long beaches of fine, white sand bordered by palm trees. Spectacular Anse Lazio is widely acclaimed as the most beautiful beach in the world.

Some of the best snorkelling is off Cote d Or, where many of Praslins hotels are found. Anse Lazio and Anse Boudin are also good for snorkelling. Sister Rocks, South Marianne and White Bank is among the top dive sites.

Take one of the walking trails and explore the island and secluded beaches like Anse Badamier. Relax on its warm beaches of fine sand, in the shade of coconut trees, listening to the gentle murmur of the sea and the gay chirping of birds. The most effective antidote to stress.

Weather is warm and humid, averaging 29 throughout the year with more rain around November to end of January. From May to September when it is drier, breezier, and slightly cooler than during the remainder of the year. There is quite a lot of rain at all times of the year, but this mostly occurs in brief showers followed again by tropical sunshine.
