Things To See In Germany
Andrew Gibson
The Ommayad mosque is a beautiful mosque which stands at the heart of the old city and is constructed in a very efficient manner by the architect. There is an Azem palace which again stands in the heart of the city and the interior design is done very beautifully. The mosque is built up very beautifully with polychrome stones and marbles. The fountains add glory to the beauty of the palace. The entire palace is filled with the fragrance of flowers which enhances the charm of the palace.
The Damascus citadel is the only fortress but it does not have a hill which other forts and citadels generally have. The interior of the citadel had houses, schools, baths and all other things which a city generally has. In fact it is considered as a city within the city. The souqs are also a point of attraction for the tourists here. There are many souqs like souq al hamidiyeh, souq middhat basha and so on.
There are some land marks which are of tourist interest in the new city as well. The national museum is one of the landmarks which tourists must visit while on a trip to Syria. It is recognized as one of the finest in the world. Visitors can see many pre-historic items from various ages of the Syrian civilization.
The Al-Takieh-Suleimanieh is another place that cannot be missed. It is a historic monument built by Sultan Suleiman al-Qanouni in the year 1854. There are two minarets which are the main attractions of this elegant structure. The Christian architecture of St. Paul's church should also be on the tour itinerary when visiting the country.
The Al Salhieh which is situated at the foot of Mount Qassiun has a great history surrounding it. It was built to accommodate refugees who came into the country because of invasion of the crusaders. There are various castles such as the Marqab, Aewad Citadel, St. Simon and many others.
There is no end to the various places that you can visit in Syria. So while planning a trip you should ensure that you have enough time in hand. The country has a well blended mixture of old civilization and modern society. Tourists visiting the country are never disappointed and many return to the country. So, if you are planning a trip to Middle East be sure not to miss Syria.
