Never, ever flash your cash or rush to put money down as a down payment. If you do, you may not be able to negotiate the price to a more reasonable figure. This is definitely a disadvantage - especially if the price they are asking is high compared to the blue book.

For example, you should be prepared to walk away if the salesman seems to be giving you a line of well you know what it is! Another good piece of advice is to not be led into different topics as you shop. Keep the questions and discussions on the vehicle you are looking at. It's a tactic they will use to not answer those tougher questions about the used car you are looking at. Plus you should really write down your questions and check them off after they have been answered this way you know you get all the questions that you wanted answered.

Check the car out for accident history too. Carfax advertises this service. Check with the dealer you are visiting to see if they will allow you to look at the history for the used car you are thinking about getting. If they don't want to help you out with this, beware because the car may have some serious problems.

Don't let the salesman talk you into those add-ons that will end up costing you a bunch of money and that you don't even need.
