Oil Finish For Wood
Jason Gerth
Staining outdoor furniture is an important process that adds richness, depth and protection to any piece and brings out beautiful wood grain. There are many stain brands and formulations on the market today, each with its own attributes (both good and bad). When considering the large numbers of stains and finishes to apply, past experience has shown you should have a look at Penofin. It is one of the few products containing transoxide pigments, the colorant developed to give automobiles their tough finish and resist ultraviolet damage. It is a penetrating oil finish using Brazilian Rosewood Oil, and is the only low-solid, non film-forming wood stain in the world. Penofin soaks into the wood fibers and locks with them so there is no surface film to crack, peel or blotch. In addition to protecting outdoor furniture around the world, it is found on decks, docks, siding, fences, gazebos, log homes, antiques, floors, and cabinets.
When searching for stain brands and colors, be sure to test as much as you can on the wood you'll be applying the finish to: test colors, application techniques (rag, sponge brush, bristle brush, etc) and waiting times for soak-in. Time spent here will pay off later when you apply a finish to your outdoor furniture. Without a finish, many woods can deteriorate. A good finish prevents swelling and cracking, protects against stains and enhances the appearance of the wood. Some woods, like red cedar, can survive just fine for decades without being treated, although cedar is one of the few exceptions. As you stain the furniture, be sure to remove any sawdust or dirt first, then rub or brush the stain onto the wood's surface. Penofin, as an oil finish, goes on very easily. It soaks into the wood, leaving behind a small amount of excess stain on the wood's surface to wipe up after 15-20 minutes. A second coat is usually recommended after 24 hours to be sure the wood is sufficiently treated.
Since Penofin wood finish is easy to apply it is the favorite wood finish of contractors and remodelers everywhere. Penofin wood finish will penetrate far deeper into the wood of your outdoor furniture than any other stain. The wood finish provides superior UV sun block protection and is low maintenance and long lasting. According to the manufacturer, an Adirondack chair or other outdoor furniture treated with Penofin's Red Label product will not need a recoating for 2 or more years.
Penofin is not only the best way to protect and enhance your outdoor wood furniture, this low-maintenance wood stain also adds to your investment by freeing up the time you would spend sanding and reapplying other high-solid stains. It truly is the most amazing wood finish in the world. As it penetrates deep into the wood to harden and stabilize fibers, it allows the wood to breathe. Many stains will tout their waterproofing ability, and it's easy for a customer to believe that stains will repel water as they see the rain bead-up on newly stained surfaces. However this is due to parafins and waxes in the stain that will quickly degrade and wash away. Penofin will not bead water, but will protect your adirondack chairs and other furnishings from water damage better than nearly all other products on the market.
