Natural Kidney Stone Treatment
James Parker
From a naturopathic point of view, kidney stones that do not occur as a result of a genetic or metabolic disorder are considered to be a diet-related condition. Proper nutrition can support healthy kidney function and may discourage stone formation, and natural therapies may help ease the pain and spasm that accompanies stone passage. Kidney stone treatment should be undertaken only after a definitive diagnosis by a physician.
The urinary tract comprises of kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra. Kidney stones condition is one of the most common urinary tract disorders. They are also regarded as one of the most painful ailments. Kidney stones are crystals that form from substances in the blood that build up inside the kidneys. When the hard mass moves out of the kidney into the ureter, a sharp pain in the back and side will signal the presence of a kidney stone.
Luckily, only a small percentage of kidney stones actually require surgery. There are many natural remedies that can be used to fight kidney stones. Traditionally, kidney stone sufferers pass their stones naturally. You will need to stay home and drink lots of water. Increased fluid intake will help flush the stone from your body on its own. You will also want to save the stone you pass so your doctor can examine it to determine what kind of kidney stone it is.
If a stone cannot be passed on its own, you can use shock waves to break it up. Doctors use a machine that produces shock waves in order to break the kidney stone up into smaller pieces. When the stone is broken down sufficiently, the smaller pieces will then exit the body in your urine. Again, remember to drink plenty of water.
If natural treatments fail, surgery is always an option. Kidney stone surgery is a fairly simple procedure where the doctor makes an incision in the patient’s back and then enters the kidney in order to remove the stone. While this is more invasive than natural treatments, in some rare cases, this is the only treatment option available.
