After dealing with broken bodies and destruction in Iraq, how heart warming to see smiling American soldiers being diverted to needy areas in central America where floods, hurricanes, famines threaten and soldiers are giving out food, dolls to children, and receiving smiles and love. What wise, healing therapy to place them in such a needing area where the decent humanity in each soldier is allowed full rein. Some soldiers are beaming as they walk with the camera, ruffling heads of children they have just fed and given some child like security doll or something for when the mountain again moves in the night.

And after so much heart break and agony from Iraq, and how we elders worry how these young soldiers will fare when they are back over here. And to see one example of what could well be, is to see these soldiers, American men and women, happily acting more as Peace Army Corp and being loved for it. America has stood for justice since it began, and shows itself best as moral guide post to the world. John Kennedy could likely have been elected as leader of Canada, Ireland, probably England, France, West Germany and others at his height in 1962-63, and his loss was felt by the world as all our loss. Such world leadership seems amiss with the incumbent, but it will return.

And how heart warming to see the smiles on the faces of those soldiers, who have lived in fear for their lives daily during their nineteen month duty in Iraq, we hear. And now we walk down a central American village road with smiling children carryhing food bags and some toy or doll.The soldier has no gun, no enemies lurk amidst these grateful people for whom aircraft from America bring them salvation and hope. And what a heathly event that is to send soldiers in need of healthy things to do with their hands.

It has been shown to be curative to get busy in a crisis, whether it is to get to pass food parcels, toys, gifts, clothing, items to repair a washed away life. You need no gun when you do that work here, away from the inflamed emotions back there. Let us pay this is a wisely considered shift in strategy, not happenstance that may be forgotten after this emergency is over. As long as soldiers leave a war zone, there is some emergency happening somewhere on earth, every day.
