These days you do not need to be a teenager to be trendy, everybody is doing it. There is no age barrier any more as we move into the 21st century. My parents or grandparents would not have worn three quarter length trousers and sandals unless they were on holiday abroad. Today they are common place almost every where and for all ages. I do smile sometimes when I see the old men with grey hair and they spike it up like a 6 year old would when trying to look like Beckham.
There is however some great fashion clothing, especially in surf and skate wear. Kids surf clothing is no longer reserved for kids. You do not need to know what an inline skate or body board is to wear surf and skate clothes. I did though see the other day an older guy skating along the promenade. He was wearing inline skates, three quarter length trousers and an animal sweat top. He must have been about 55 but did not look stupid or anything and I just thought, I wonder if I could do that now, never mind when I get to his age.
What makes things easier nowadays for the older generation to look trendy is of course the internet. You do not need to go into town to find surf or skate shops because there are plenty of them online. You can now surf with your credit card the numerous cheap online surf wear websites and kit yourself out nicely.
In reality what probably happens is mum is shopping for surf or skate wear for the kids or grandkids and thinks to her self, oh they look good and are reasonably priced, I will get one for the old man as well.
This is of course good news for the manufacturer and retailer. Their customer base has risen enormously without any effort on their part. Its all down to what I call the peter pan syndrome, if I look young, dress young and act young then I must be young. For the young at heart.
