Shivering Isles is the first true expansion for the popular Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game. Oblivion is currently available for the xbox360, PC, and PS3. There is also a release planned for the PSP, though it will be significantly different from its counterparts.

Previously Bethesda had released additional downloadable content, ranging from simple items (horse armor) to additional quests (the Knights of the Nine featured over thirty additional hours of gameplay!). Shivering Isles however is going to be much more of a significant expansion.

Shivering Isles adds a new area to the already overwhelmingly large Oblivion map. It features two additional "planes" of existance. One is fantasy related featuring bright colors and unreal scenary, while the other is quite dark, and evil. The developers felt that the game already had enough realistic looking environments, and wanted the ability to be more creative with this expansion. They have succeed in creating an area that is within the bounds of the game and yet different from everything already there.

Of course this expansion also brings with it countless quests, as you wage battle against a new nemesis. This means tons of new dialouge, new items, new spells, new enemies, etc.

The cost is unknown at this point, but speculated to be between $15 to $20. It is due out on March 27th. Oblivion is a world to get lost in. It is already the biggest and deepest game I have ever seen. I can't imagine their being a need to add even more to this immense landscape, but then again I know I'll be buying it as soon it is available. More Oblivion....hurray!
