The first home remedy for black eye is to get something cold on the eye immediately after it has been struck. The cold will help relieve the swelling of the eye. Your best choice would be a bag of ice. If a bag of ice is not available, a cold can of soda or a bag of frozen vegetables will work. However, it isn't recommended that you put steak on your eye... like you see on television. Raw meat does nothing to help heal a black eye!

Besides ice for 20 minutes on & off, elevate the head, even when sleeping. Arnica, pellets by mouth and topical cream, is a wonderful plant remedy that treats the pain & bruising and can be used liberally with absolutely no side effects. Don't use aspirin, as it's anti-coagualant effects can prolong/spread the buising .Arnica oil ( Arnica in olive oil is the most potent form, but will stain clothing so is best used at night). It is all available at health food stores. Take good care of yourself.

Treat a black eye using a potato - For those of you who keep their potatoes in the fridge this is a good remedy for a black or bruised eyes. Peel the potato and cut a round slice just under half a cm thick. Lay down for half an hour with a slice of cold potato over your eyes. This works great.

A beefy semi frozen steak is still the best remedy. The vitamins in the meat help. or pack ice in a plastic bag keep area covered for at least 1hr and the black eye never materializes.
