New Zealand is located in the south-western Pacific comprised of two large islands, the North and the South Island. It is just twelve travel hours away from the U.S. west coast.
It is imperative that your passport does not expire within three months of the date you plan on traveling for New Zealand. You should give yourself enough time to apply for one, though some passport agencies will accelerate your application for a fee.
Most travelers get their passports at a passport agency from their country; however those living outside their country of citizenship should apply for one at the nearest embassy or consulate. Furthermore, here are some visa and passport tips to New Zealand.
For Americans: U.S. citizens only need to have a valid passport, as no visa is required for up to three months stay.
For UK Nationals: British citizens who have a holding passport endorsed British citizen are not required of a visa for a stay of up to six months. However, British citizens who have passports endorsed British National (Overseas) could stay for only three months without a visa. For all other cases, a visa is required.
For Canadians: They will be required of a valid passport. However, for stays of only up to three months, no visa is required.
For South Africans: Valid passports will be required of you. Also, no visa is required for stays for up to three months.
Please note that Visitors should have a return ticket, proper documents for continuing travel, and proof of having adequate financial resources. In addition, visitors must have in their possession NZ$400 per month of stay. In other cases, visitors must have NZ$1,000 for every month of stay. Passports should be valid for at least three months extending after the period of stay, or for one month if your country has a consul in New Zealand
