Picture Of Gum Disease
Mike Selvon
There are various treatments for both stages; however, the longer the disease is allowed to exist in the area around the tooth the more likely tooth loss will occur. Therefore, it is extremely important to know what signs to look for in identifying mouth infection, as well as to know exactly how to prevent such infection in the first place.
The first stage of gum disease is not so close to the tooth, but affects the gum tissue. Whether by genetics, neglected oral hygiene or other factors, in the first stage the gums will begin to swell and bleed upon brushing and flossing.
As the disease progresses, the gum tissue will recede from the teeth and the early second stage of mouth infection begins, which is periodontitis. At this point bacteria can enter spaces created by gingivitis and infection can affect gum tissue and bone surrounding the tooth. This can loosen teeth.
If you carry a genetic disposition for periodontal gum disease, then you may be without escape. Still, there are treatments available, such as a special mouthwash, as well as antibiotics to help fight off any infection you may have. To prevent gum disease, be sure to brush, floss and rinse twice daily.
You'll know if you're in the first stage of mouth infection if you have swollen gums that bleed upon brushing and flossing. This is the time for you to head straight to a dental office and get the treatment you need before the mouth infection advances to the second stage.
Periodontal gum disease is no laughing matter. In fact, people with symptoms of gum disease may not know they have it, but can't seem to rid their mouths of bad breath, which is another subtle symptom of mouth infection. If it is detected and not treated, then you could end up losing a tooth or two or more.
So take the time to brush. Go through the ordeal of flossing and rinse with mouthwash. Otherwise you could find yourself in the dentist chair about to undergo oral surgery.
The financial burden of this won't be pleasant. From the first stage to the second stage, mouth infection can wreak havoc so be on the lookout for symptoms before it's too late.
