No research has been carried out to find the cause of baby colic to my knowledge, although I could be wrong. It makes sense that all funds for research would be used for much more serious problems where terrible pain is experienced or for diseases which are often terminal.

Baby colic isn't really serious but is very distressing for the crying babies and the parents for anything from 3 to 5 months. It's rare for colic to last as long as 6 months but this does happen occasionally. Even 3 months of pain and crying is too long for any newborn to suffer.
