More and more parents are becoming too distracted with their careers or jobs that they are failing considerably at providing enough time and attention to their little ones. This is very evident from the increasing number of nannies that we hire every year. This is of course understandable because we want to provide the best that we could for our children in terms of their basic needs like education, food and other basic necessities.
The chances of our kids, however, engaging in very unhealthy habits are increasing, studies show, the longer we spend time away from them. We have to understand that our children needs us especially during times that their development as a person is at its peak. But how can we make sure that they grow up as a responsible adult and focus enough on our careers to make sure that they get what they need?
Giving time is something that's very hard for us because of the demands of our jobs. It is true that being a parent is in itself a full time job. So how can we provide children with enough time they need to stay away from drugs or other unhealthy habits? Thankfully, the answer is as simple as just keeping them distracted: hobbies. All you have to do is find out what keeps your child happy for hours and you can be sure that he or she will do that for all the free time he has.
You can suggest great past times to your children and watch them develop skills that you know could and would help them with their future lives as an adult. It teaches discipline and patience and it also gives them immediate rewards about the lessons that they learn. Because while they're enjoying themselves with something they find fun, they're also seeing slowly how their own products are becoming better and better everyday.
Hobbies also teach children how to appreciate the products of their own hard work and so it increases the lieklihood that they will keep on doing it and become better at it. Of course, this is a stage that could possibly be filled with a lot of tears and frustrations so make sure that you are always there to provide the support necessary during these times.
It's very depressing that we are losing the values that helped shape the way our nation has become today. But it doesn't always have to be that way. With a little nudge from us parents, and a little effort we can raise our children the way that they should be raised.
