Pictures Of Chinese Women
K. Roxette
Women's standard in the rich history of the world remains secondary to those sturdy and macho men. This is a fact — written in old books, read in magazines, seen in dramatic soap operas, encrypted in the attractive images of billboards — that no one could ever deny. All women feel this way wherever they go, whether in a busy office where most executives are respectful men or in a car where most drivers are rude men. This trite issue has never escaped the vibrant culture of China.
With the implementation of the one-child policy in China, the country is slowly returning to the tradition of boys being the preference for children than girls. So basically in China, if you can only have one child, better make sure it's a boy so your bloodline doesn't die out. So baby boys are treated like emperors, spoiled beyond belief while girls…well girls are more likely to be avoided, ignored, given away, and even aborted. And with government bonuses and tax exemption on the line, the chances of the survival and healthy growth of baby girls are very slim.
Centuries ago, up to the early 1912, Chinese girls have to suffer from great pain while their feet were forcefully bound using a white cloth. Their mothers passed on this tradition because they once believed this binding as a symbol pride and social hierarchy among women. Even with disabled and deformed feet, girls as young as five years old need to endure the burden and struggle to walk. Two theories support the footbinding tradition among Chinese women. They say that by binding the feet, women are then restricted to their homes; others claim that it was a form of primitive fashion then, when ancient people believe that smaller feet means you're beautiful and lovely. If women really want to ensure marriage in the future, she had to submit herself to gangrene infection, paralyzed gait, and even muscle atrophy. As ridiculous as it sounds, early Chinese guys believe that women with lotus gait make them move like a real virgin– a reason they get sexually turned on with smaller feet.
Women today have so much to be grateful for, especially now that they are living in a more or less sensible society. Yes, the battle for gender equality is still on, but at least, they don't have to lead the fight with an aching sole like early Chinese women. They can walk anywhere they want and try to achieve a lifelong dream.
