Learning how to play guitar is perhaps a great challenge I had to face back when I was still in high school. But when I think about how I love guitar playing is, I resolve to do better and learn more. The task becomes less daunting when you have defined what really is involved. It takes absolutely time to be able to master guitar playing but it is a little too early to think about that at the moment. Like many other tasks, you need to prepare and have the right materials to learn. In my experience, I had to go through a lot of thoughts to quit even before I start playing a piece. My fingers went numb and I certainly had callous over the tips of my fingers. In the end I endured the experience and learned how to play the guitar.

All potential guitarists should learn the necessary skills needed to properly play the guitar. To name the skills they are chords, picking, arpeggios, strumming, scales, aural and reading. To develop these skills is entirely dependent in your will and the desire to learn. When you start learning the whole set of skills needed then you will be able to have a very good foundation for your guitar playing. What makes this foundation as important as having pillars in your learning? Basically, having foundation is like having the pillars to support one whole building. And building a good foundation will take time because if you do not take time to do this from the beginning, chances are that you will have to go back and relearn them all over again which a total waste of your learning time is.

Those essential skills will serve as your strong pillars of support. If you take time to learn them in the early stage of your learning, things will be easier later on. Each skill will have sub-skills to develop. For instance in picking, learning this skill will require you to have steady hand and accuracy on the string pick action as well as alternate string picking. Hitting the string is another story. It is not merely hitting the string for the purpose of hitting. It needs to be done in a precise action and definite movement right at the very start. Learning it is one way and developing it is another way to do it. Developing one skill will definitely involve your presence of mind, effort and determination. Guitar playing is fun. It produces a kind of song that will touch and heal the soul. It soothes the inner being we have in us. So if you are dead serious about learning guitar then you will have to endure and stretch your patience as possible.

If you find yourself thinking about quitting, as you probably will, think about the feelings you got when you are listening to someone playing the guitar and how it feels like if you do not simply listen but play it yourself. This very much will give you enough determination to go on.
