John Deere was a blacksmith who made things easier for Illinois farmers back in the 1840's by inventing the first cast-steel plow. These cast-steel plows were better suited and well-capable of digging and plowing through the tough soil of the Middle Eastern and Middle Western portion of the United States.

Before the invention of the cast-steel plow, the farmers from Illinois used the widely common plow at that time, which is the iron cast plow. These iron plows tend to easily bend and rusted easily after being used quite a while. The steel cast plow Deere invented performed and lasted well because of its innovative shape, design, and material. The plow became very successful among farmers and John Deere owed his success to his invention of the steel cast plow.

To the following years, decades, and century, the John Deere Company, now mostly known as Deere & Company, is the leading and the largest manufacturer of agricultural equipments not just within the United States, but also in the world. They sell a variety of farming equipments such as tractors, combine harvesters, planters and seeders. They also provide equipments used for gardening and forestry such as lawn mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, etc. and they also ventured further the line of off-road adventuring by making All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) and snowmobiles, a line which was only manufactured for a short period. The John Deere machines and equipments are recognized with their logo of a running deer in green and yellow colors and with their slogan "Nothing Runs like a Deere."
