This quote by Gerald Epstein expresses a fundamental truth for anyone who is serious about changing for the better. Yet, for the most part we stay as we are, safely tucked away in our comfort zones. Change is something we consider embarking on tomorrow but somehow never quite get round to taking action. We tell ourselves that we should spend less money, should be nicer to our spouse, should give our parents a call and we could probably do better in our job.
Well, indeed we should and could. Alas the words should and could do not encourage change. Actually quite the opposite is true. These words are telling our conscious minds to put off change till tomorrow. Come tomorrow the same old story repeats itself, because we still have the some old inner talk. Hence we put off changes to a future that never arrives, hardly noticing that we are doing it through our own self talk.
The quality of your inner talk is reflected in the quality of your life. Therefore you must become fully aware of how you talk to yourself, before you can make lasting changes for the better. The clarity of your self talk reflects the clarity of your actions. Let us assume for example that you get up in the morning wanting a cup of coffee. Then you remember that you should not have too much caffeine and that a cup of herbal tea might be better for you. In this moment your thinking is already you are delaying your actions. You may even end up not having drink and eat a banana instead.
The consequences of the unclear thinking in our example are minimal, but just consider the consequences of this type of thinking, when you are dealing with more important issues. In order to produce the changes you wish to make in your life quickly your inner talk needs to be crystal clear and concise. There is no room for words like should, could or would. They simply clutter up your brain, creating indefinite postponement of action. As we all know, inaction and delays are surefire motivation killers.
True change always happens from inside and you can give yourself a jumpstart by learning new mental focusing techniques. Begin by searching for relevant energy techniques to raise your vibrational energies. These techniques will help you to get energised quickly and create clarity of mind. You feel motivated to spring into action.
A very good technique, which belongs to the family of energy therapy is EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique. It combines mental focus with a form of needle free acupuncture, raising your vibrational energy and at the same time increasing mental focus. You can learn EFT easily and quickly and it is very effective. Whatever it is in your life you want to change, start by taking action. Do your research, there are no excuses for inaction, the Internet is at your fingertips and packed with information to help you.
