Planning A Halloween Party
Robert D. Thomson
As Halloween starts approaching, many people start thinking about hosting their own Halloween party. If you are ready to take the plunge this year, here are some pointers to help get you started.
1.Start the planning. Before you can get very far with your Halloween party preparations you need to know a few things. For starters, will this be a children's party, an adult's party, or mixed ages? Are you going to go with a theme? What day, time, and place will work out best to have the party? Who are you planning on inviting? Getting some lists started can help make this part of the planning process a lot easier.
2.Send out invitations. The invitations will help set the mood of your Halloween party. You can purchase them from your local party supply store, or get creative and create your own. Make sure to include all the important information, such as the date and time, where the party will be located, if costumes are required, and if you would like an RSVP.
3.Plan your menu. Depending on the time of day your party is, you may need to provide your guests with a meal or at least some snacks. Of course, it will be more fun if you incorporate your foods into your party theme instead of doing the traditional chips and dip. Look for recipes that you can make ahead of time and store or freeze to help save you time on the day of the party.
4.Pick your pumpkins. If you are planning to use pumpkins for decorations or as part of your activities, buy them sooner rather than later so that you have the best selection. Store your pumpkin in a cool dry place until the day of the party. You can carve jack-o-lanterns the day before, and make sure that you have enough candles to light them up.
5.Create a costume. No Halloween party is complete without costumes, but the last thing you will have time for on the day of your party is to go running around looking for one. Buy costumes for yourself and any other family members prior to the big day, as well as any accessories that you might need, so that all you have to do the day of the party is put them on.
6.Get games going. You might want to have some games, crafts, or other activities planned to help pass the time at your party, particularly if it is for a younger crowd. Think of activities that everyone will enjoy participating in, and round up any supplies that you might need ahead of time, including prizes. You might want to plan multiple activities and keep your schedule flexible in case a certain activity takes more or less time than you imagined.
7.Make your music. Halloween music and sound effects can be a great addition to any party. Consider purchasing a CD or making your own musical mix that you can play throughout the party.
8.Fabulous favors. A favor is a nice little token for your guests to take home with them. These can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like, but you will want to assemble them ahead of time. Make sure that you have enough for each guest, as well as an extra few in case an unexpected partygoer shows up.
9.Decorate. You will want to decorate your house, both inside and out, prior to the party. Look for decorations that go along with the theme that you have decided on.
10.Prepare for the arrival. Shortly before your party is scheduled to begin, give everything a once over. Make sure that the walkway is clear and well lit and everything is in place. Shut pets away in another room to make sure they don't accidentally escape with all the comings and goings throughout the night.
With a little planning, you can host your own spectacular Halloween party easily.
