When summer rolls around, seeing spider veins on your legs is a bit discouraging. You want to wear skirts and shorts but cannot bare the thought of being associated with purple lines running across your legs. If the spider veins were more easily hidden it would be one thing, but they always seem to appear on the lower portions of the body. Unfortunately, there is a reason for this and it is not one that you will have too much to say about.
Why the legs?
Spider veins appear due to circulation issues and gravity. The heart pumps out the blood at a particular rate to keep the body moving while the veins get it where it needs to go. At the same time, gravity is working to pull everything down to the ground. The unfortunate part of the equation is that the body can change these two items very little. In the end, the blood is drawn down at a particular rate as the body works to modify it as best it can. It uses a series of valves to control; when, where and how much blood goes where and when. Since the lower part of the body is closer to the ground, which is where it finds itself slowing down and concentrating if a particular valve stops doing what it is supposed to do. If it does, the blood looks to find a way around the concentration and spider veins are formed.
Getting around the problem
Once the issue of spider veins has presented itself there is little one can do except address the issue. They don't really harm anything, unless another issue is involved, but they do look unsightly. Since gravity is involved, taking steps to slow down the blood because of gravity is a good place to start. If you stand a lot during the day, try finding a way to turn the standing into sitting at regular intervals. This creates a chance for the blood to more easily get around a concentration of blood as it is affected by gravity.
Catch it early
If you see the spider veins coming, start to address the issue sooner rather than later. comes in a variety of forms and will work better if started sooner rather than later. will help as will other more invasive techniques. The big idea behind the whole process is to act when you are still in a parka so that by summer your legs are ready to shine.
