There is wide array of materials in the market to help you in learning a foreign language. The many available choices and option may get us confused on which one to use that will work best with us. Most especially if you are doing self-learning you might get confused on which books to use, on whether a few audio CDs will do or should the entire set be bought and on how long will it take for one to be able to communicate or be fluent.

There are many college courses that immerse you into learning a foreign college but those years of education is not a guarantee of being able to speak fluently unless you plan to stay for some time in your chosen language's country where you can further enhance your speaking skills with native speakers there. So it isn't at all that necessary to take several years of college course just to learn a foreign language.

A good start to learning any new language would be to get a basic book of that language. A good basic book would teach you the essentials in grammar. It should be divided into sections for easy scheduling of topics depending on the number of hours you plan to study daily. The book should have exercises that you could answer and provide an answer key that enables you to check if your answers are correct. The book should have a basic vocabulary of words that stick to basics.

To master a language, your natural talents would come in handy. It is also important that you are serious about it and that you practice what you each day. You will also attain fluency if you target to stay in a foreign country where the language you are learning is spoken. You get to practice the foreign language with native speakers helping you acquire the accent, etc. unless you can converse with native speakers in your country.

Commitment is also very important on your part. When you want to learn you should put your heart into it. Work towards reaching your goal and with some effort you'll be talking fluently in a lesser time as you expected.
