I was fortunate enough to be an Usher at my brother's wedding and what a fantastic job it is. It is completely devoid of any real responsibility yet you get to be a real part of the occasion and more importantly you get to wear some of the impressive wedding clothing. Let's be honest there is not a bridesmaid alive that can resist the groom's brother in the wedding finery (I wish).

Sadly for most of us being part of the wedding procession does not happen every week of the year. It is a shame because the wedding suit that I wore for my brother's wedding was unlike anything I have worn before. The main difference was that the suit, unlike everyday office suits, had a long rear tail which was far dressier than anything that I had ever warn since and will probably have the privilege of wearing in the future.

The problem is that whilst the bride will have spent a large majority of her life gearing up for the special day the groom has probably never thought about what he would be wearing on his wedding day. Whilst the girls were drawing pictures of their wedding dress in primary school the boys were outside throwing stones and pulling the legs of insects. The other problem with this is that if they tell you that they are wearing a colour such as mauve then you are unlikely to know exactly what that is and get it all wrong. The best thing you can do is to get the help of the maid of honour. She is likely to have a very good idea about what the bride and bridesmaids are going to wear and she is also likely to have a good idea of the bride's tastes. Best of all if you get her o do all the work you will get the credit and you will be thanked for making an effort with your future wife's best friends.
