One might think that the Internet is sufficient to educate you about all that is there regarding bad credit and its repair. However, the fact remains that there are many myths out there that tend to push you in the wrong direction. This discussion aims at debunking three of these myths, with the hope that it will put you back on the right track.
Myth no 1: Your credit score cannot be improved legally.
This is a myth that has been circulating for a long time. This myth is widespread due to the dishonest credit repair companies that fool their clients into thinking their bad credit can be erased in a very short time. The truth is that there are legal ways and illegal ways. Doing so legally is usually a lengthy process. It can take six months or more, and involves financial discipline and money management; while illegal ways would remove your negative remarks spuriously until the investigations on your claims are completed. Then you're not only stuck with the same bad credit score, but you may be notice for having submitted false information.
Myth no 2: All credit repair business agencies are out to cheat you.
This is a very popular myth and one which prevents most people from using the services of reputable agencies to repair their credit score. The truth is that while there are many dishonest and unscrupulous agencies, there are equally as many if not more ethical and customer oriented agencies as well. To know which one you should trust, check with associations that impose strict business codes such as the ECRA (Ethical Credit Repair Alliance) and the BBB (Better Business Bureau). A credit repair business listed with one (or both) of these organizations stands a higher likelihood of being trustworthy.
Myth no 3: Repairing your credit score is easy.
This is one more common myth. The Internet offers plenty of advice explaining credit history, rating and how to settle any type of dispute. What it does not say is how much time and effort is involved in identifying, notifying and pursuing matters to their logical end. Every negative remark has to be followed up individually and this is often extremely tiring and cumbersome, not to mention the fact that it requires a certain expertise regarding how, when and what to write when you appeal to the credit bureaus to correct your report.
As I've explained, not only is the credit repair business legitimate, but it provides a very important service to those who struggle with financial issues. Do not hesitate to seek expert help if you find yourself in a fix with your credit rating. You will find that using a reputable credit repair business agency is one of the best things you can do.
