Stop Computer From Freezing
Kelly Purden
The causes behind computer freezing can either be software or hardware related. The only way to carry out effective trouble shooting which will stop computer freezing is to systematically work backwards. The reason why our computers freeze, most of the time, is because we've installed new components, or we've forgotten to "clean" our data. The questions below will help you stop computer freezing from the onset.
Did you install new software or programs?
Software problems may either be caused by incompatibility with the operating system, or the possibility that your computer's running out of RAM or hardware memory. In any case, if the problem started happening right after you've installed a new program, then you definitely need to uninstall this program and reboot your computer. There's no way to find out if uninstalling the program would stop computer freezing or not, unless you go through the rigors of trial and error.
If your computer's speed resumes to normal after the program has been uninstalled, then you're lucky because you've nipped the problem in the bud. If it still hasn't, then you will need to ask yourself the questions below.
Did you install new hardware devices?
Disconnect any new hardware which you may have installed right before your computer started freezing. Make sure you disconnect all wires from the communication ports and uninstalled drivers as well. After uninstalling the drivers, reboot your system and see what happens.
If your computer resumes operation at normal speed, then the problem could be caused by incompatible hardware drivers. Reread your hardware manual and see if you've made a mistake anywhere in the process. It's possible that you've downloaded a hardware driver that's not appropriate for your operating system.
Did you check disk space and RAM?
Our computer's capacity to store data and run operations is not limitless. Make sure that your RAM memory has at leas 20% free disk space. If this is not the case, you may possibly be running out of virtual memory. Defragging hard disk space is also very important and should be done regularly. This assures you that your hard disk is in tip top shape.
Did you look for virus hazards?
It is considered suicide to explore the internet without any anti-virus protection. Make sure that your anti-virus protection is fully updated. Most computer freeze ups are caused by viral or Trojan infections. You should never underestimate the importance of having a good anti-virus system.
Did you install spyware and malware protection in your PC?
These days, it's not even enough to just presume that an anti-virus system is enough to protect our computers. The pages we visit on the internet are filled with spywares and malwares. These could very well be the culprit behind your computer's slow performance. Make sure that you regularly check if your computer has any spyware or malware. Eliminate any of these once you've spotted them, and run a quick disk check after rebooting your OS.
