Sunglasses For Face Shapes
Ben Needles
Sunglasses can make an outfit, really put it over the top with a focal point accessory, but with so many style options out there, shopping for sunglasses is not always so easy. Luckily, when you know just a few simple things about your own face shape and what styles are most flattering for that shape, the task becomes an easy and fun shopping experience. When you know how to compliment your face, all thats left is choosing sunglasses that flatter your personal style and add that punch of style to any outfit.
Find tips for each face shape below... and start shopping!
Round
Angular sunglasses will do the best to compliment a round face shape. To make a round face look longer and thinner you can also look for a wide pair, one that will have a width equal to or wider than the broadest part of the face. Another option to thin this face shape is to find sunglasses with a sharp cut from temple to cheek, like you find with Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
Triangle (also known as Heart-Shaped)
Since a triangle shape means a wider upper half of the face, its good to avoid any additional width by choosing wire or wraparound sunglasses that keep a sleek line on the face. Frames with a straight top line and sunglasses with a cat eye shape are also a good option. Often a triangle shape means a strong chin, so bold styles also work on a triangle face that can balance this style with strong features.
Oval
People with an oval face shape are the lucky ones because they can almost never go wrong with any style of sunglasses. Square frames are always a safe bet, as they are so flattering on this face shape. The only option that can go wrong for an oval shape is over-sized sunglasses. When they are too big, they can overwhelm delicate features that are common for this shape.
Diamond
Oval or rimless sunglasses are classic choices for a diamond shape because, in both cases, they can help to soften the sometimes angular contours of this shape. Softly curved square frames also provide a nice compliment to a diamond shape. One thing to remember with a diamond shape is to keep the width for the sunglasses equal to the width of the cheekbones.
Oblong
To offset the length of an oblong face, choose large sunglasses in round, square or wraparound shapes. To add width to this face shape, look also for large arms and detailing on the temples. When trying to reduce the size of large forehead, look for sunglasses where the top of the frames hits above the eyebrow.
Square
Again, wire or wraparound sunglasses are good for a square face, as they do not add the illusion of additional width to the face. When they stay within the width of the face, aviator sunglasses with a curvy look are a great choice for this face shape. Any style with a round or oval shape is a good option to balance the angular lines of a square face.
