Tales From English History
Devinder Patel
It was until 410AD that the Roman continued to rule during which time different independent kingdoms were created by the Romano-British. The Anglo-Saxons prevailed to control England and they become its major ruler. After AD 800 there were frequent attacks by the Vikings. England was conquered by the Normans in 1066 after its invasion.
Throughout the Middle Ages several civil wars took place with battles over other nations. Tudor rules England during the Renaissance period and England was able to conquer Wales by the 12th century. It was in the 18th century when England reunited with Scotland and built the Kingdom of Great Britain . It was after the Industrial Revolution that Great Britain ruled the little remains of the empire. Its culture has significant impact and became widely known in many countries even in today's times.
There were archeological remnants that highly suggest that the late Southern Britannia used to be colonized by humans even before the rest of the British Isles owing to the more sustainable climate throughout the different ice ages from the past. The Massaliote Periplus was the region's first historical mention referring to the sailing manual used by merchants in the 6th century BC despite the existence of cultural and trade links with the continent before this. It was in 325 BC that Pytheas Massilia was able to keep a journal about his trading journey around the island.
The tin trade from the Southern Britain was recorded by writers Pliny the Elder (who quote Timaeus) and Diodorus Siculus (probable drawings on Poseidonius) although there was limited information about the people who lived there. It was reported by Tacitus that people from Southern Britannia and Northern Gaul share similar language and that various Briton nations notably share the same physical characteristics with their neighboring continents.
Julius Caesar recounted from his De Bello Gallico that there Southern Britannia has a large population while sharing similarities with the Belgae of the Low Countries . He wrote this when he invaded Southern Britain between 54 and 54 BC. Roman historians with some coin evidence provide significant names of the rulers of the different tribes and their machineries in Britannia before.
The British population used to be stable until it was conquered by the Romans and during Julius Caesar's first invasion the old Britain speak Celtic language which is considered to be the forerunner of the current Brythonic languages. Britons ruled Britain once again after Julius Caesar left it.
