Let's take a moment to consider what stress actually is. This is an important first step in the process of stress relief. We must understand the nature of the beast before we can seek to tackle it effectively.
In essentially simplistic terms stress is the opposite of relaxation and as such there isn't much to understand. The real complications arise when we attempt to identify the factors that cause stress and seek methods and techniques to reduce it.
Stress levels require management. A certain measure of stress is useful and indeed it is essential for an enjoyable and productive life but too much stress needs to be avoided at all costs. It is harmful to our physiological and psychological well being and if allowed to get out of hand can lead to a serious threat to health.
In medical circles stress is defined as a range of strong external stimuli, both physiological and psychological, which can cause a physiological response called the general adaptation syndrome. Although it has been part of human make up since the beginnings of ancient man it has only been so described as late as 1936 by Hans Selye in the journal Nature.
Everyday Stressors - things that cause stress
The factors that cause stress and anxiety are many and varied:
·Marital and relationship differences
·Sexual
·Financial, economic and work related
·Environmental stressor, such as sound or light levels; overcrowding
·life changes (e.g. divorce, bereavement)
·daily stress events (e.g. traffic, lost keys)
·Workplace stressors (e.g. role strain, lack of control)
There are some simple ways to relieve stress that we can all apply in a moment. Other factors, stressors, may need a little more attention while other things may require a complete lifestyle change.
Have you ever considered that a good night's sleep, something that is so often absent in the modern life, may be all that is required. Indeed, for a moment consider how you feel when you rise in the morning not having experienced a deep, relaxing and peaceful sleep.
Simply aiming for a solid night of eight hours sleep will work wonders for stress levels and is a free for all source of stress relief. For that very reason I will go into greater detail about some ways that just about anybody can experience a night of bliss. Six hours sleep, in most cases will not be enough to adequately relief stress in your life.
Another thing that you can pursue is to tackle those priority tasks first. Get them done out of the way and then you can do the next most important thing - get a social life. Take time out for yourself. Start to enjoy your life. Just doing these simple things will bring about a serious and noticeable relief of stress and anxiety in your life.
