The Cure For Addiction
Todd Lange
If you check out the state health website for the addiction treatment program in Mississippi, you will understand that there is a definite inclination towards prevention rather than the actual treatment aspect of it. There is a long section in the addiction treatment program on how nipping the addiction problem in the bud makes more sense.
This is meant to be implemented at various levels actually. People within their families have to prevent addiction, so do the schools, colleges and workplaces, and even the state has to take the proper measures for preventing addictions in the most effective way that they can.
However, what each agency can do for the prevention of addiction in the state is different. Here is what the addiction treatment program in Mississippi suggests.
Prevention of Addiction at the Family Level
One of the most important aspects here is identification of the problem. Families are advised to keep their eyes open to check out any signs of an addiction within people in their midst. There are long descriptions of the signs and symptoms of each kind of addiction over the Internet that families are suggested to read and know about.
If there is an addiction suspected in the family, then they are advised to form an intervention group in order to bring people out of the condition. Family intervention is the most popular form of intervention in Mississippi and it is ably guided by various intervention specialists across the state.
They train family interventioners on how they can form intervention groups that can be trained to motivate the patient to get into the treatment and then be with the patient, supporting them, all through the way. This is an important aspect for bringing people into treatment.
Parents and caretakers are also trained on how they can keep their children away from the risk factors that might cause them to be addicted. They are requested to keep a constant vigil on their children's affairs so that they can be in the know if something untoward is happening.
Prevention of Addiction at the Institutional Level
Since people are usually involved with a lot of institutions where they spend a lot of time of their lives, this could be a very appropriate area to implement some addiction prevention plans.
Every school and college has a counseling cell for substance abuse or at least they have an access to someplace where such counseling can be provided. Students who want to discuss some issues can access these places. The counseling centers are also open to the parents and caretakers of the students if they wish to intervene in a treatment program or just want to get some information on things, such as reading the signs and symptoms of a possible addiction in their children.
When teachers and other staff suspect that there is some kind of addiction in a particular student, they will bring the student to this counseling center for confirmation. After assessing the situation, the counselors would want a meeting with the parents of the student if the abuse is confirmed. During such meetings, a way out from the problem will be found out and then implemented.
If the student goes into denial, the teachers and the counselors will probably intervene too. This helps in getting the student into a treatment mode when the situation is still quite manageable.
A similar kind of counseling is done in many workplaces where employers themselves may come forward and intervene for bringing addiction treatment to their employees. Even here, counselors would identify risk situations and try to prevent these when there is still time so that the situation does not become any more complicated than it should.
Prevention of Addiction at the State Level
The addiction treatment program in Mississippi has made several specialized treatment centers available for people who are in varying degrees of addiction. This makes it easier for people to get into treatment. People can also get the right kind of counseling to find what treatment options would be the best for their condition.
Another important element of prevention at the state level is the strong arm of the law that tries to prevent most illegal substances from entering into the state. There are various interdiction points on the highways because road trafficking is how most of the addictive substances come into Mississippi. There are crackdowns on various clandestinely operated labs that can produce some recreational drugs like methamphetamine. In addition, there are the drug courts that order people convicted of alcohol or drug related offenses to complete an addiction school program before they can be given back all their citizen rights again.
