The Good The Bad And The Weird Trailer
Kc Kudra
Special occasions call for special treats. There is quite a variety of Mexican cookies. Some are for anytime, while others are made at celebrations. Some are served at holidays while others are found at weddings. Whatever the time, they are sure to make anyone's mouth water with the sweet aromas and delicious tastes.
What are Mexican Wedding Cookies?
These are Mexican traditional cookies and are truly delicious. Mexican wedding cookies are made from shortbread and groundnuts, such as pecans, walnuts and almonds, are often added to the mixture. These popular cookies are served at Mexican weddings and anniversaries and also around Christmas. There are different variations on Mexican wedding cookies throughout the world, including Russia and Sweden where they are known as teacakes. You might even like to try your hand at following a Mexican wedding cookie recipe if you have a wedding or anniversary coming up.
Tasty Mexican Biscochitos
Biscochitos is another popular cookie in Mexico. It originated in Spain. When the Spaniards came to Mexico, they also brought the cookie. They are made with anise seeds and sprinkled with cinnamon. Depending on the maker, some of these cookies include different ingredients. You might find some biscochitos with orange juice and wine taste for added flavor. The cookies are cut with cookie cutters or made into diamond shapes. Some people even drink wine while eating them.
What are Mexican Marranitos, Cochinos, or Puerquitos?
Cochino, puerquitos, and marranitos refer to the same cookie but the name changes depending on the region. Sometimes they are known as "gingerbread pigs" even though ginger is not an ingredient in these Mexican cookies. Marranitos are shaped like pigs and their spicy flavor is due to the molasses used in the traditional Mexican recipe. Mexican bakers make their own molasses by placing brown sugar in cones and boiling it with water.
When it has turned into syrup, the molasses is added to the dough to make the marranitos. These Mexican cookies are rich in taste, moist and have a flaky top.
Churros Mexican Traditional Cookies
Churros originated in Spain and were then introduced to Mexico. They are fried cookies, made from a light, sweetened paste. This paste is piped into hot oil and fried until it goes a golden brown color. For a sweeter taste, cinnamon is often added. Churros are delicious eaten warm and street venders make them on the street and sell them there.
It used to be difficult to find churros outside Hispanic areas in the past. They were only sold at sporting events and carnivals and if you wanted churros, you would have to find a churros recipe and make your own. Now that Latin food is gaining popularity all over the world, you can find churros in Mexican grocery stores and in local restaurants. Some churros have an inner filling such as apple, chocolate, or strawberry but this was not part of the traditional recipe. Americans love the flavor of churros and many other nationalities are discovering them for themselves too. Churros are often eaten with coffee for breakfast or a snack at any time.
There are many types of Mexican cookie recipes. If you are new to these types, you might want to visit a local Mexican grocery store and try a few that are fresh from their bakery. Once you enjoy them, you will want to include them for your own celebrations. These cookies would be a hit at any party!
