The Gi Diet Guide
Delmondo Sorell
You'll be hard pressed to find information about the Atkins Grapefruit diet, such as any details of the company that produces it. Hard to find information is a pretty good tip off that a con job is being perpetrated. This possible con does it's best to make people assume it has something to do with the official Atkins diet.
Does the Atkins grapefruit diet have anything to do with the actual Atkins diet? Nope ? the Atkins company doesn't mention the diet on its web site, and the most critical phase of the famous diet called the Induction phase does not allow any fruit.
Here is what can be eaten in the induction phase:
An type of fish
All fowl such as turkey and chicken
All sorts of shellfish
Any meat such as beef or pork
Any style egg
All sorts of cheese
Any vegetable you can name
A variety of herbs and spices
A variety of fats and oils including butter
Drinks low in carbohydrates such as diet soft drinks
Unfortunately for the Atkins grapefruit diet, there no fruit. Later phases of the Atkins diet do include limited amounts of fruits such as cantaloupe and even lemon juice, and the pre-maintenance and maintenance phases even specifically allow small quantities of grapefruit. But when compared to the amount of Grapefruit recommended on the Atkins Grapefruit Diet, again there is a disagreement.
There's a lot of grapefruit in the Atkins grapefruit diet ? up to 18 carbs. Even the phases of Atkins that allow grapefruit limit intake to below 8 grams of carbs of grapefruit per day. That's a direct contradiction of one diet to the other.
When they hear about the Atkins grapefruit diet people should naturally visit the Atkins web site to read more about it. It isn't found there, and that turns off a lot of folks.
Keep this in mind. Any diet that relies too heavily on one food, such as grapefruit on a grapefruit diet, is unhealthy in any but extremely short periods. The Atkins Grapefruit Diet is not associated with the Atkins diet, and may interfere with the results of the Atkins diet in its early phases.
