Any homeowner has always known that when a home has a fire, it can be extremely damaging and possible even destroy the entire place. Since the turn of the twentieth century when all homes began having indoor plumbing, water damage also became a potentially damaging element. For years and years no one ever gave very much thought to mold until it was discovered that having mold growth inside the house can be an extreme health risk for those who live there.

People were always with fire in the home when it was used as the sole source of heating and cooking and they had to learn new safety measures when gas and electricity came along. When gas lighting was introduced people discovered that it could easily catch the home on fire if it was not maintained and used properly. After electricity began being used they discovered that faulty wiring could also start home fires. In the beginning there were probably not nearly as many, if any, codes that had to be met for electricity safety. Over time however, they were put in place more and more and today having a home wired for electricity and gas alike must be done according to very strict standards in order to pass inspections.

Water has always been used in the home for our daily needs and the greatest treasure in days gone by for most women of the era was when water pumps were actually placed indoors. This meant no more hauling water from a nearby well or stream. It was truly a modern luxury. Then cam the plumbing pipes that turned into the vast home water systems we have in place today. It might have been amusing to see the first homeowner that had a water line to break and flood everything. They probably figured out very quickly that water lines had to be maintained very carefully to prevent this particular hazard from happening. It might not be a quickly destructive as a fire, but nothing you want to happen none the less.

More recently homeowners have discovered the importance of making sure their home has no mold growing anywhere. It is almost impossible these days to sell a home that has mold damage. It might be easier to sell a house with faulty plumbing rather that mold. Plumbing might be easier to fix than the mold problem which can come from a plumbing problem. Either way you do not want water or mold damage in a house.mold can be difficult to get rid of completely and sometimes extensive renovations might have to be done before this can be achieved.
