Medieval Swords And Shields
Travelmayor
Medieval Swords are some of the very ancient swords. They were used in all over the world and praised by the warriors of that time. Special features, exotic look, and sharp edge made this weapon one of the favorites in the past, there were different types of medieval swords crafted, many of them are still available and those who know about the swords they must be aware of the medieval sword.
Before 1500 AD, medieval swords evolved from steel Celtic swords, which in turn arose from a tradition of straight, double-edged swords which began with bronze swords as early as 1,500 BC. At the opening of the Middle Ages these swords tended to have blades just under a yard in length with a grip designed to accommodate a single hand; the other hand being concerned with the grip of a shield. In the development of bladed weaponry, the point was always of great importance; consider the popularity of the spear. As for the sword, although the point was utilized, in the sword's early days the edge was the preferred mode of attack. The natural tendency is to swing the arm, not to jab with it. This is a distinctive feature of medieval swords.
Essentially all of the earliest medieval swords and many throughout the period were designed to cut, having surprisingly thin blades, especially towards the tip, which was often rounded. By the close of the Middle Ages, swords increasingly are stouter and more sharply pointed, being optimized for the thrust, the cut having been rendered less effective by improvements in armor. Similarly, with these armor improvements, the shield became redundant and swords with hilts effectively accommodating both hands make their appearance and grow in popularity. There are different types of medieval swords which are different from each other according to their features. Some of renowned swords description is as follows:
Acre Sword:
This sword is one the ancient sword and used in third crusade by King Richard Lion Heart who won the battle. We have named this sword in honor of that battle. This sword is made of brass and is exemplary in its functions which made it one of the best among medieval swords.
Castillion Sword:
It was used in 1453 the battle which was fought between French and English. French destroyed the English army. This battle was fought near French river of Dordogne in Castillion. Its sculpted beauty almost belies its deadliness.
Beauge Sword:
This sword was used in Henry V's regime. His brother led a force which was caught up with the raiders near Beauge in Anjou and defeated badly. This sword is symbol of simple beauty with dangerous sharp edges.
