1. Packing Glasses ? Nothing is more aggravating than moving your drinking glasses. They break with the slightest of nudges. To avoid this, try stuffing them with your socks. Make sure to wash them after you have moved in!
2. Moving Pace ? Some people like to do a move all at once, but it can lead to stress and frustration. If possible, try to move in little steps by sticking things in the garage of your new home. Just ask for permission first!
3. Driving Moving Trucks ? If you rent a truck, remember it is not your car. It is much bigger, slower and definitely not as maneuverable. Drive like a granny, not Jeff Gordon.
4. Dealing with Email ? We have all come to rely on the Internet, which can be a problem when we move. You may be unconnected for some time, so you need to consider your email. The best solution is to open a free Yahoo email account.
5. Dealing with lots of Books ? Unless you have a prized collection, moving books is a pain in the butt. One option is to sell them. You can go on Amazon and sell them online with little or no problem. Find the book, click the ?sell yours? button.
6. Professional Cleaners ? If you are moving out of a rental, professional cleaners are worth their weight in gold. Hire them if you want to get your deposit back.
7. Budgeting for Your Move ? If you are moving yourself, you should be budgeting for it. As a general rule, you want to set aside one month of rent as your figure. If you don't spend it all, you can go out and celebrate your new location!
8. Internet Service Hookup ? Call well ahead to insure your internet hookup. Cable and DSL companies are infamous for being slow and backlogged with orders. In some areas, it can be as much as three weeks!
9. Cats In Cars ? Cats and cars are a bad mix. Throw in the stress of a move and it is a nightmare. Keep them in a carrier or they will pee all over the car. The smell is impossible to remove.
10. Using Back Braces ? Back braces may look goofy, but they are a definite must if you are moving yourself. Unless you do sit ups every night [don't lie], your back will take a beating without some help.
As a general rule, time spent moving should be off limits. Spouses and friends should agree that anything nasty said during the move will not be held against anyone! Yep, it is that fun and marriages have practically ended while doing it.
