Moving On Quotes Love
Miky Moore
As soon as you have an idea of your moving date you should start requesting moving quotes from your local movers. It is not a good idea to accept moving quote or estimates given over the phone. You should request that the removal companies send an estimator to visit your home to see exactly what you want to move and the physical layout of your property.
Upon arrival at your property the estimator should be shown all the items you want to move. Items in the loft, basement, garden shed and garage etc. should all be inspected. At this stage it is wise to discus any special requirements you may have. Such as furniture to be dismantled, items to be picked up or dropped off at a different address, or if you want the mover to take anything to the dump. It is important that you explain all these things clearly as the estimator will take them into consideration when working out your quote.
Moving rates may be calculated base on the amount of items you want to pack and move. From his survey the removals company estimator should be able to work out the size of the van and how many men are needed for the job. He will take into account the amount of time it will take to complete your move. This will all depend on if your move is a local move or a long distance move which may require the removals men to sleep overnight.
Charges may also be based on the amount of time it takes to complete the packing and moving or it may be based on an hourly rate (this is not suitable for long distance moves). Check to see what the defined hours are: Is a day's work 8 hours, 12 hours or 24 hours? Does the hourly rate vary depending on the time of day? Does the mover charge for overtime? If yes when does it start and how much is the cost? In the worst case scenario if you do not get access to your new home on time you could well find your move going into overtime.
Hourly rates are normally based on a pick up to delivery principle, but meal times are usually excluded from the charge. Moving rates may be more or less expensive depending on the day of the week. For example move done on Monday to Thursday are known to cost less than a move done on the weekend.
A good way to reduce the cost of your move would be to pack some of your belongings yourself and if you are moving locally you can transport small loads to your new home yourself.
Most UK removal companies have the same terms and conditions. This is normally supplied with the moving quote. Make sure you read the fine print properly before you sign.
Upon accepting a moving quote you are expected to book a date for your move. Upon booking that date you would have to give the removals company reasonable notice if you want to cancel or postpone your move. Otherwise you could be charged a cancellation fee.
