Modern Furniture Dining Table
Adam Peters
The 60's experienced a very different kind of trend, it displayed a very carefree & funky attitude. This attitude reflected in the furniture's too, hence it could be rightly referred to as the 60's furniture.
In 1952 the nation saw yet another funky style of furniture that became very popular. It was termed as the ‘G plan'.
The popularity of the funky furniture made it a high demand commodity, and limited manufacturing made collecting the whole set equally difficult. This scarcity forced customers to resort to purchasing the consecutive set and blend it with the original set and the result was satisfying. This gave birth to the mix and match concept, which was later, named as the ‘G' Plan trend.
The mix and match trend proved to be a blessing in disguise for homeowners. It spared them from spending a fortune to purchase the entire set. This concept gave them liberty to experiment with different sets and create their own style.
Scandinavia emerged as the top manufacturer of the G plan furniture. Mostly retro styled furniture was made from Swedish pine, commonly known as summa and for the more modern designs the dark Tola wood from Africa was used.
The 60's saw a growing trend of Use and throw attitude among the younger generation, even though it lasted for a short period it left its impression on the furniture market too. Everything from blow up cupboards to chairs and other furniture items were available in the market hence discarding outdated items was no more a big problem. But a survey conducted proved that evening this era, the love and respect for wooden furniture had not reduced.
G plan furniture manufacturers always embossed their creation with a gold or red stamps on its base to mark its authenticity. Nowadays its difficult to find these authentic classy creations, but one can easily shop for the original G plan furniture's on online auction sites like Ebay and other listed stores, although it can prove to be a bit too expensive owing to its high shipping charges its definitely worth trying. Looking out for these funky furniture's at garage sales, car boot sales, weekend markets and charity shops is a much better option.
