The introduction of the iPod, that lets you carry your CD collection anywhere you like has brought about a revolution in the world of music lovers. Now, mobile phone manufactures are in a constant competition to provide the best music features in mobile phones. Infact, they are putting their best efforts to combine people's favourites--the phone and their music in single hand held gadget like the mobile phone.

Till few days back, music features on mobile phones were more of a novelty than a feature in its own right. But today with more and more users preferring music on the phone, mobile phones with music capabilities are gaining wide popularity. But, can a music mobile phone replace the MP3 player or other portable music players? The answer may not be agreeable to all users, because the purpose of using a mobile phone is not same for everyone and so is the requirement of music.

Most music mobile phones don’t have much internal memory to store enough music in it. Think about Motorola ROKR, the often described iPod phone, it only has iTunes compatibility and can hold 100 songs in its memory. So most users may not prefer to throw away their 80GB portable audio or video players for a mobile phone with so little memory.

Even when we come to the sound quality it could not meet the standards of a MP3 players. In some phones the sound is so iffy that any music lover may not like to dump his audio player. Moreover, the music mobile phones that could compete with MP3 players are so expensive that an average user cannot afford such mobiles.

Music phones like the LG Chocolate, Nokia Music Xpress and Sony Ericsson Walkman with advanced features and memory are already in the hype. Recently, Apple introduced the iPhone, probably the first dual purpose mobile phone. No doubt, technology is advancing day by day. It is likely that we may get all-in-one hand held gadgets in the coming future, but not every feature will be as perfect in every gadget. While trying make one feature perfect, other features might suffer, and if so happens that for any reason one feature stops functioning than you may have to buy another expensive phone. So depending solely on a single device can be risky at times.
