Outside Of The Office
John Smith
Lots of business owners baulk at the idea of holding meetings outside of the office, normally on cost grounds. But that cost should be treated as an investment because there are lots of good reasons for at least occasionally holding off-site meetings. Here are just a few:
Stimulating environment
Moving your employees away from their normal office environment can be productive in many ways. Freed from the usual confines people can be stimulated and released from the normal strains of the working day. You may be pleasantly surprised at just how productive staff become away from their desk and be turned on to the idea of holding meetings outside of the office.
Remove interruptions
If the meeting is especially strategic, then holding it in the office just won’t work. All participants will be liable to interruptions from colleagues not at the meeting, and delegates will have their minds on their normal day-to-day responsibilities, rather than focusing on the strategic elements of the day.
Relaxing surroundings
Most meetings held at a location that also offers leisure facilities tend to work the best. This doesn’t have to be out of town, but obviously a fantastic rural location with full meeting and leisure facilities will probably be more relaxing for most delegates, especially if an overnight or longer stay is incorporated in the meeting.
Independent facilitator
Depending upon the personalities of your team, and for the purpose of avoiding internal politics or power tussles you should give serious thought to appointing a totally independent, professional facilitator. They will be able to implement the necessary discipline to make the meeting stick to the agenda and also encourage the free flow and exchange of ideas, often from people who would otherwise be excluded. Yet another great reason for holding meetings outside of the office.
Let some one else do the leg work
Finding the right venue for holding meetings outside the office can be time consuming. There are lots of suitable venues throughout the UK that can offer great facilities so how do you find them? Try a venue finding specialist. From the smallest independent hotel equipped with intimate meeting rooms to massive chains with custom-built conference facilities, all are available through companies such as the Venue Team – a company that specialises in finding the right venue at the right time at the right price for you. You or someone that works with you could spend fruitless, unproductive hours searching for the right venue only to come up with nothing, or worse an unsuitable venue. Using a professional venue finder is a very smart move!
