It's now commonly known that an electric toothbrush is far more effective in cleaning teeth than a traditional brush. Among its many advantages I can mention that it's a lot more precise as it can get every part and every space between teeth, it gives an excellent massage to both teeth and gums, it helps to prevent the tartar and plaque, and most of all it is easy to keep clean.
I've had a lot of success with Braun electric toothbrushes over the years. The first, a very cheap one, lasted five years before the battery gave in. The current one, which is 6 year old, only died because one of my kids dropped it from a height onto a floor and it broke open. That's why I had to buy a new one. This time I chose Oral-B Vitality type 3709 Dual Action.
It is actually not as advanced as the older one, which had a sort of hammer action where the entire head massaged forward and back. However, it does have two brush heads. One is the standard Braun rotating one, the other is a triangular one that just vibrates back and forwards.
I was a bit dubious about this model but after using it I was delighted to find that it cleaned my teeth far more thoroughly than the old one. Just like a twin blade razor the second head catches what the first one misses. Since it uses exactly the same Braun mechanism that they have had for an eternity, it also works with all of their standard brush heads. The brush head is of course interchangeable. So when it is used up you only switch the head, not the entire set.
As all other electric toothbrushes it must be charged. In this model a full charge takes 16 hours and after that it will provide an operation time of approximately 20 minutes. For everyday use the handle can be stored on the plugged-in charging unit to maintain the toothbrush at full power. Overcharging is impossible.
