Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and Italy's second largest island. In the city of Alghero in the north, a dialect of Catalan is spoken. Alghero is an old fishing town that has embraced the tourist industry. The Regatta of Is Fassonis takes place each year at the beginning of August in the town of Cabras it is a speed competition of Is Fassonis, a gondola type boat of ancient origins built by hand intertwining a special kind of bulrush that grows in the Cabras lagoon.
