Review Of The Movie
Andrew Conway
Jason Reitman's Juno is about an unplanned teen age
pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes an unusual
decision regarding her unborn child. It is probably
the best movie of 2007. A funny, savvy, feel-good
comedy that reminds you why you fell in love with
movies in the first place. It starts out as somewhat
of a comedy and ends ups with a list of characters
we can all associate with and love, perhaps someone
that we knew in our own teen years.
Ellen Page's performance as Juno MacGuff is nothing
short of brilliant. A sarcastic and wise beyond her
years 16-year-old. She enlists her best friend Paulie
Bleeker (Michael Cera) in an experiment he is not too
eager to join. Of course she gets pregnant after her
first attempt at sex and after a trip to an abortion
clinic that leaves her cold, she decides to have the
child.
With the help of her best friend Leah {Olivia Thirlby}
she takes it upon herself to find some adoptive parents.
She informs her parents, Mac{J.K. simmons} and Bren {Allison
Janney} and their reaction is not what you might except.
They seem the "coolest" parents that I have ever seen.
After informing them that Paulie is the father, she
embarks on her pregnancy with the help of her supportive
father and step mother.
While looking through the local penny savor she soon
discovers a childless couple.Jason Bateman and Jennifer
Garner are paired up once again and play the embattled
parents to be of this new child while facing their own
inhibitions in their not so stable marriage.
This film was an unexpected pleasure and I would classify
it as a great film. This was Diablo Cody's first feature
film and she did a refreshing job on the topic of teen
pregnancy. It's rare for me to say that I would go and
see a movie again in a theater, but this film I would
and that is one of the reasons that I would rate this
movie the best film of the year.
