The town of San Miguel de Allende is known as a very popular tourist destination, and the perfect location for retirees from other countries to relocate. La Cava de la Princesa and Planeta Dorado both also offer a fantastic atmosphere, great food, and plenty of drinks and friendly people. Mexicana is a terrific place right off the main square with a great black, red, and white theme. No matter what your idea of a good time is when it comes to clubs and bars, there are sure to be several places in San Miguel that will become favorites.

Some bars and clubs are only open on specific nights, but many of the restaurants, bars, clubs, and dance halls are open six or seven nights a week, and there are plans for each night that can last until early morning. With the wide variety of bars and clubs strewn throughout the town, finding one that you are comfortable in is just a matter of simply looking around in the area near you. Some of these places are set up for visiting tourists, and there may not be many locals there, while others are favorites with locals and visitors both, and these are the bars and clubs that have authentic local color and flavor.

Chocolate, formerly known as Poncho and Lefty's, mixes a terrific drink, but this bar caters mainly to the tourists. This can make an American feel at home, and they can be sure English will be understood, but it has the feel of an American bar, and there is no color or history in the place. After all, what is the point of visiting this fabulous city if you do not mingle with the locals, and observe their traditions and cultures.
