Recipes For Cholesterol Diet
Cindy Heller
Cholesterol is basically a wax like substance which necessary for our body to create cell membrane as well as hormones. The good cholesterol (HDL) should be no less than 40mg/dL and the bad cholesterol (LDL) should not be more than 200mg/dL. However, cholesterol is not calculated by your body weight therefore, you can still have high levels of bad cholesterol although you are thin or under weight.
As mentioned, there are two types of cholesterol - good one and bad one; the bad cholesterol can lead us to have a heart attack by clogging the arteries, while the good cholesterol can reduce our risk to have a heart attack. Hence, the objective is to increase the good cholesterol and lower or maintain the bad cholesterol at the desired level.
Understanding What a High Cholesterol Diet is and why it can be Life Threatening
Many people are living their lives with a high cholesterol diet, and this can be more than simply dangerous, it can be life-threatening as well. This is why it is so important to determine whether or not your diet is a high cholesterol diet, and thus what you can do to modify it if need be.
How to Tell if you Have a High Cholesterol Diet
There are many ways to tell if you have a high cholesterol diet; for example, if you are consuming a lot of foods that contains high in saturated fats, then you have a high cholesterol diet and are much more risk to having a heart attack or a stroke. There may even be other health problems such as obesity or other types of coronary problems, for example.
Recognizing Food High in Cholesterol
A) Label-Reading
A diet low in cholesterol shouldn't have too many labels. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables are the answer to a low cholesterol diet. When your food does come with a label, you should be looking at the most important items to mark food high in cholesterol. First, remember that all the numbers are based on the serving.
However, some foods seem to purposely make their bad numbers seem small by defining a serving size as something less than the average person would eat. For example, when a 16 ounce beverage bottle claims to contain two servings, you may question what they are thinking. Just remember that no matter how small the package is, if it claims to contain two servings, double all of the numbers.
You could also look at the calories and calories from fat. This will tell you the percentage of fat it contains. You should have fewer than 30% of your daily calories from fat for healthy life. That's easier to achieve if each serving you have sticks to that figure. The listing of total fat shows the number of grams of fat per serving. The percentage is not the percentage of the serving is fat but the percentage of your daily fat allowance is limited in one serving.
Observed the amount of saturated fat and trans fat is in the food. This is where you will find whether this is food high in cholesterol. Both types of fat raise bad cholesterol. Your daily allowance for these should be zero. The nutrients are good for you. Look for high percentages of these. Fiber is good for controlling cholesterol. If your food should have fat, such as salad dressing, look for fat-free, low fat, reduced fat, and cholesterol free and so forth.
B) Menu-Reading
Eating out may mean a break from cooking but it doesn't mean a break from healthy eating. Study the menu to avoid food high in cholesterol. Stick to low-fat choices. Clear soup instead of creamy, steamed or broiled instead of fried, dressing on the side are all good ideas. Choose lean meat, fish or chicken. Chicken should be skinless. Vegetables should have no butter or cheese. Be careful at the salad bar. Food high in cholesterol is bad even on a salad. If you stick to your guns, you can keep your heart healthy for a long
What is a Low Cholesterol Diet?
Basically a low cholesterol diet is a diet which includes healthy foods and regular exercise. You should also go back to your doctor regularly for proper checkups. These are all important factors for any good cholesterol diet, and must be taken into consideration with the extreme seriousness.
You can choose a low cholesterol diet to your taste, as there are many different ones to choose from, and this also does not mean that you have to give up all of those foods that you love. The most important thing here is to remove any foods that have high in saturated fats, because saturated fat is the primary cause in regards to a person having a high total cholesterol level.
You should try to eat according to the following guidelines:
1. less than 7% of the day's total calories from saturated fat;
2. 25-35% or less of the day's total calories from fat;
3. less than 200 milligrams of dietary cholesterol a day;
4. limit sodium intake to 2400 milligrams a day;
5.just enough calories to achieve or maintain a healthy weight and reduce blood cholesterol level.
Remember that going to your doctor is incredibly important here, because everyone is different and so you will need to find out what the best way is for you, and what you in particular should do to lesser your total cholesterol level. You should also remember to make regular appointments with your doctor from time to time, in order to keep a watchful eye on your cholesterol level, so that your doctor can make sure that you are in healthy cholesterol level.
