It is a truly interesting place, above all for those who would like to know sites bound to Cuban culture. That is, Trinidad de Cuba, the town that best preserves the colonial architecture in the Island.
The older part of the town surprises by its river stones, all arranged in the street, they recreate at a glance and allow the imagination to fly in time, to travel to the past.
The stones are a key symbol since they link the sea, the river and the city; additional and especial enchant of the town of Trinidad or the Sant?sima Trinidad as it is also known, impeccable showcase of styles including balustrade, rails, grilles, paintings, chairs, portals, and ceilings of red corrugated tails.
On December 23, 1413, in his coming and going to the bay of Jagua, Diego Vel?zquez arrived to the future Trinidad. Then he heard, along with 20 of his men, the first mass of that place delivered by Fray Juan de Tesin, his chaplain.
Then he named the city Manzanilla and stayed there until the end of the year. The town was prosperous, but in 1518 Hern'n Cort's almost depopulate it in his search for followers to conquer Mexico.
It was repopulated between 1579 and 1585 by Spaniards and it was given the title of city. Cigars, furs and meat characterized the trade of this city. Since 1673, sugar was its sign and populated the area with farms and mills, until it had the Valle de los Ingenios (valley of mills) or the Torre Manaca-Iznaga as symbols of the peak of the sweat.
In the second half of the 18 century the wax appeared, as well as honey and coffee in the economy, making it prosperous again. The year 1720 is the time for the peak and a new decline in 1857.
It was forgotten, but that allowed it to preserve the colonial architecture, which gave it the title of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1988.
The area features the Anc'n, Las Cuevas and Costa Sur Hotels. It belongs to the central province of Sancti Sp?ritus and there, near to the Zaza reservoir, lodging can be found in the same name's hotel of this lake.
These hotels have their characteristics, Anc'n is separated by a line of fine sand almost next to the gates, that is why is so pleasant to do jogging in the morning or simply enjoying of a unique landscape at sunset.
The intimate environment is the most important sign for these amusement houses, in which vacationers enjoy the customized care of a staff with a wide knowledge of the region.
The city holds the house where the German scientist Alejandro von Humboldt stayed ?considered by Cubans the second discoverer of Cuba, after Christopher Columbus.
The most important sites as to nature in Cuba are Baracoa, in the eastern region, Pinar del R'o in the west part and undoubtedly the Escambray, in the central part, very near to Trinidad.
