Hair spray: Hair spray is probably the most popular hair care product on the market. Every guy and gal has a can of hairspray somewhere in their bathroom. Hair spray is great product to have for setting the hair style. But can make the hair "crunchy" and hard. Not the best way to get the boyfriend to run his fingers through your hair! If you are going to a big event, such as prom, and need to set that perfect hair-do, hair spray is your best bet!
Gel: Gel will provide extra control and perfect to use on a daily basis to control flyaways. A lighter formula will keep hair natural looking. Use gel sparingly to avoid the wet head look.
Mousse: Mousse will not give a lot of hold but is great for curly, fine hair. Mousse is light weight so it won't hold down the hair.
Serums: There are multiple types of serums on the market that are type specific. Serums are usually available to enhance curls, control frizz or to add shine. Use these products sparingly. On average it takes about one to one and half squirts of serum for your entire head.
Balm: Hair balm has a lotion feel, it is lightweight and used best as a finishing product and to control those frizzes.
Pomade: Pomade is great because it adds shape and texture plus gives the hair more shine. It doesn't dry hard and can even be reworkable throughout the day. With this product, always start with less and add more. Too much pomade is always a bad thing!
Wax: Wax is great to add texture and details to the hair, especially if you have short hair or if you want to add some dimension to your style. Wax will give you a serious hold; it is a great finishing product.
The most important rule to hair care products is to always start with less. Just like with many things in life, more is not always best. It is far easier to add hair products then it is to start over.
