Konami will be maximizing its access to current-gen game technology to make necessary improvements in terms of the gameplay. Aside from increasing the level of intensity for this game, the visual and gameplay enhancements that this game is set to deliver will hopefully increase its realistic aspect as well.
First off, you will readily notice that the menu system is so much easier to navigate and control, which is a plus factor for this game. A more manageable menu navigation control will certainly assist to perfectly execute run plays or handling the ball in PES 09. In addition to a more efficient menu system, the Manual Control mode enables you to have better control of how you run the game.
And one of the most excellent feature in Pro Evo Soccer 09 is the Teamvision AI System. Unless you are in a good position to make a goal, your teammates will refuse to pass on the ball to you. Hence, there is more emphasis on creating intelligent plays.
The Become A Legend mode is the highlight of all new additions into PES 2009. Although it has been noted to have the same features as rival FIFA's Be A Pro mode, Konami claims that this mode is much different and expansive. Aside from having to focus on a single player in his efforts to gain professional career in football, you must specifically look into his input when on the field.
Two more notable modes and features have been given improvements for Pro Evo Soccer 09, which include the Master League and Player-Editor mode. Meanwhile, PES 2009 is noticeably more visually sound and realistic. Player likeness is indeed more prominent, which is a huge departure from the cartoon-like look that we saw from previous games. The defense animation and action also undergone some visual tweaks not just for aesthetics but to facilitate a smoother on-court action.
As for the overall gameplay, PES 09 has given more emphasis on the ball, which is really an essential factor in this game. Developers have took the time to work on the ball's physics to make it a more physically independent element in the game. This certainly holds true as the ball produces realistic reactions when hit by varying surfaces.
The question now is whether these improvements will be able to take Pro Evo Soccer 09 out of the slump, in which its predecessor has relegated it. As FIFA attempts to break away, PES 09 is looking to regain its football supremacy.
